Nice episode, as usual. I had Dungeon Lords on my radar, because it’s from the guy who made Space Alert. But I just have no luck in managing to play at least one game, so I won’t buy D.L. soon. I heard that it’s quite complex – you guys mentioned a lot of rule sub-systems, too.
I don’t get it why in Australia everything seems so expensive?! The regular german WH rulebook can be pre-ordered for 60€… The WH40K book costs 50€. Hm, I just see there are a lot of expansion books. It seems to be good that I stopped playing WH40K years ago. I remember when they introduced the “white metal” here and the prices gone up for 50% (I had the feeling that I said that in an older comment, when GW’s pricing was a topic, too
.
Dungeon Lords has lots of fiddly pieces but after one game I felt pretty confident with the rules. I am not going to run out and get it though, it doesn’t have enough player interaction for me.
The cost of GW (and most other gaming stuff) is outrageous in Australia. Part of the cost comes from the long distances products have to be shipped. There are other factors, like our poor exchange rate with the British Pound and Euro, and the fact that many distributors (GW included) seem to add a bit of a buffer on top, in case of further price fluctuations. On top of all this is a further 10% sales tax. The iPad (and all Apple products) are a good example – the Aussie dollar buys about .82US cents, this gets rounded down to .80 so we pay 20% on top of the US price, plus sales tax. Such is life in the antipodes!
You said in this episode to tell you if you were wrong about the price of the new Warhammer Fantasy. Whell you were, it’s only $124 not $125….. Oh well guess you weren’t too wrong after all.
With $124 for the “normal edition” it certainly makes the $200 collectors edition seem relatively more reasonable
BUt I think the Marty and Nathan “just don’t get it at all” edition may be the way to go.
Hey Nathan and Marty,
Thanks for the shout-out! We also have three more print books coming out this year…

Thanks again!

All this talk about DFRPG just makes me want to have it on the indie games on demand menu somewhere. Come on, Marty. Take the plunge!
Damn, getting things wrong is totally not our style…! I am truly frustrated by this price because all the changes I have heard about (I have been listening to the Bad Dice podcast) make me want to play it. The good news, I suppose, is that I live near Jeff Carrol (of Podhammer fame) so can probably get a game with that crew.
Yeah Marty. Plunge!
I have noticed that in my buying of games Amazon.com is generally a lot cheaper than Australia, even when you take shipping into account. Weird though…
Great episode, totally going to look into dungeon lords.
Ok I’m not trying to give these guys a free plug or anything, I also think you have mentioned them on your show once, but I do most of my shopping from them when it comes to miniature stuff, so please remove link if you wish —- Maelstrom Games in the UK http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php
They are the cheapest by far. I just bought a descent expansion and the flames of war book ‘eastern front’ and I got it cheaper then I could get just the descent expansion here in Australia. (And it’s free shipping)
Stupid isn’t it we live next door to NZ which is home of FOW and if I was to buy it in Australia $75 AUD for 1 book but to get it shipped from the UK $44 AUD
Can anyone see something wrong with this picture?
